Of course, loads of poker players, including yours truly, have gone from playing poker in strictly “live” poker rooms to playing over the Internet. This inclination is increasing at an amazing rate, but that in no way suggests those players opting for cyberplay are abandoning their traditional forums. After all, although the game of poker enjoyed in brick and mortar casinos and that conducted over the Net are, for all intents and purposes, the same, the two are still very unique in many ways. (We’ll cover those “ways” later.)

The Same Difference
The same is true for the reverse, meaning players who only started playing poker on the Internet and never even entered an actual poker room would be more likely to venture into one now. After all, he or she has learned how to play the game and clearly enjoys it, or they wouldn’t still be playing.

An online player’s actions may vary considerably when playing in a real poker room with real people. For example, at a live table, the last thing a player wants is for other challengers to see them losing their cool when their game takes a downward turn. This is certainly the case when playing poker with friends; you’re more likely to maintain a certain degree of composure when the going gets rough. The physical nature of live-play intrinsically affects, for better or worse, the way we perform, as well as our capacity to focus.

In the virtual world where opponents do not see each other (although that too will change), pressures coming from other players are almost nil, but still exist to some degree (i.e. bet sizes).
